Laser Treatment
Lasers have been enjoying resurgence as a cellulite treatment in recent years, with new ideas being developed, new firms being created and venture capital money invested. We’re here to take a closer look.
As with anything technology-based in the beauty and cosmetics world, the hype often outweighs the reality. You can picture the newspaper and glossy magazine headlines already- “Here come the boffins!” “It’s time for science to come and save you”, “Laser is the bleeding-edge technology in the world of cellulite treatments”.
In reality, laser treatments have been around for quite a while in the cellulite world, it’s just that endermologie came along, which is the massage technique that uses machines and one of the rare cellulite treatments that was awarded the hard to get verification from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). During that time, clinics and salons were rushed to offering endermologie, which offered a better outcome and dropped laser technology in the process.
But now there’s a whole new generation of treatments that have two, three or even more different elements, combining laser technology and endermologie, and maybe a heat source like radio frequency thrown in for good measure.
Because of all the research and money that’s currently being devoted to the treatment and cure of cellulite, there a good range of new options out there today, and if you’re already following the rest of the advice on this site, some of them might well be able to make the difference. Having said all of that, you should also remember to take much of the information you see on websites and brochures with a pinch of salt, and don’t expect miracles no matter how high-tech a particular treatment may seem.
Just recently, Vellasmooth, a treatment that uses a combination of massage rollers and vacuum suction to break down the fatty deposits that can accumulate in your thighs and cause cellulite, was recently approved in the United States by the FDA.
Basically, the idea behind Vellasmooth is that if you warm the fatty deposits that cause cellulite, they can be dispersed more easily. Some of you may feel a little squeamish at the prospect of being partially cooked, vacuumed and pummeled, but much of the photographic evidence and first-hand accounts seem to indicate that the treatment works rather well. Plus, if you can commit to a regimen of a repeat treatments over a few weeks, you can achieve pretty rapid results, which is indeed one of Vellasmooth’s biggest advantages. Think of it in much the same way as Botox for the forehead or collagen for the lips.
Another one of the top laser development companies, called Bio-cellulate, developed a combined deep endermologie massage with low-frequency laser therapy. Research and trial results are described as ‘exciting’ and according to those in the know, well over a million dollars has been spent on MRI scanners that can measure the depth of fat deposits, so that cellulite layers beneath the skin can be more easily targeted. Follow-up results on testers apparently show that thighs can remain smoother for six or even twelve months without their owners having to resort to more treatment – provided healthy lifestyle rules are followed, of course.
Perhaps another good reason these extensive technology, quick result remedies may be worthwhile trying is if you have a special occasion coming up. A wedding on the beach perhaps (if it is your wedding or somebody else), a holiday with a loved one that you want to admire your fabulous shape (certainly he already admires your great personality and intelligent mind!), or perhaps a romantic evening when you might want to show off your best underwear!
Q: I would really like to try some of these new treatments, but am I going to have to spend a fortune?
A: Perhaps. People are getting loans for all sorts of things these days. This is just one more thing on that list. Some of these treatments can get quite pricey, especially if you’re doing any type of combination therapy. The equipment is expensive, so the treatments are expensive. The best thing to do is talk to people who have successful treatments, and find out what worked for them.
Q: What can I do about these love handles? I’m not really overweight, but I have cellulite and fat over my hips that I can’t get rid of. Will these new treatments help me?
A: If you have persistent deposits of fat in certain areas, then some of these treatments may help you. Do your research, and look for treatments that promise to sculpt in addition to helping with cellulite.
