Some Beauty Tips

The Daily Mail has posted up a great selection of beauty tips this morning, including one about using coffee grounds to cure cellulite. Whilst we’re not entirely convinced about the effectiveness of that particular method, the list is useful with some helpful tips on a variety of things including toning the stomach and skin care.

  • Blast with cold water: ‘A daily cold shower is great for toning the skin and also boosts the immune system,’ says Dr Ian Drysdale, principal of the British College of Osteopathic Medicine, who has himself been taking cold showers for 55 years. He suggests: ‘Ease yourself in with a 30-second blast to different body parts at the end of your shower.’
  • Look out for any skin/mole/freckle changes. Two-thirds of us fail to do so, say the British Association of Dermatologists, yet one person dies of skin cancer in the UK every four hours. (Survival rate is 99 per cent with early detection.)
  • Put a few spoonfuls of used coffee grounds onto a damp sponge and, using big circular movements, massage your thighs and legs to banish cellulite, says Janey Lee Grace, author of Look Great Naturally (£8.99, Hayhouse).
  • ‘… and then run a rolling pin up and down your legs,’ says celebrity beauty therapist Janet Ginnings (who looks after the beauty needs of Sadie Frost, Elle Macpherson and Caprice). ‘My mother taught me to do this to break down and disperse excess water.’
