Similarity between Cellulite and Stretch Marks
Cellulite and stretch marks have more in common than you might realise, not least because both indicate damage that has been done to the dermis (connective) layer of the skin. As the name suggests, stretch marks arise because of prolonged stretching in the skin, causing the connective fibers to break and reducing blood flow to the area.
There are differences between the two however. Unlike cellulite, the cause of stretch marks is easily identified and represents intense damage to a specific area. This damage is to the elastic layer beneath the skins’ surface that gives it the structure it needs, and are much more difficult to remove. They form when this elastic is stretched beyond limit, causing the skin to lose its elasticity altogether. They vary in colour, depending on the age and extent of the damage but all eventually become white or translucent.
Stretch marks are also commonly observed in men, especially young men who have gone through rapid growth spurts, bodybuilders and anyone who has rapidly gained weight (such as pregnant women).
